Will hormonal therapy stop pain during intercourse?

Hormonal therapy can reduce cycle-driven inflammation and bleeding, which may lessen pain during intercourse for some patients—especially when symptoms predictably flare around a certain point in the cycle. For others, the improvement is partial or temporary, and pain can persist even when bleeding is suppressed.

Hormones don’t remove endometriosis lesions or adhesions, so they may not fully address deep dyspareunia when pain is coming from deeper disease, scarring, or associated pelvic floor muscle spasm. Side effects and fertility goals also play a major role in whether hormonal management is a good fit. If sex pain is ongoing or worsening, our team can help identify the likely pain drivers and talk through options tailored to your anatomy, symptoms, and goals.
